Anyone here familiar with shin splints? Everytime I try to run on the treadmill I feel like somebody is stabbing my shins with a knife. I enjoy running and find it a little more stimulating than just walking, even with the incline way up. WebMD and those sites aren't much help. One says rest it, one says its tiny fractures, one says see a sports doctor. Any suggestions?

Yup, better see the Dr....they are very painful, and take a while to heal....they are very common with horses....LOL, so I know a little about them....can you feel anything....like a bump? I would not be working out with it until you get it checked out....you could just do more damage!!!! Good luck!!!

I don't feel any bump but I am not going to stop working out! Everytime I do I gain 10 pounds. I will work out with crutches if I have to.............. I guess I just can't run for awhile.

HELP! I'm starting to eat some chocolate candies. They are Ferrero Rocher that I bought for my boys for Valentine's Day. I've had one and I want more!!! How low can you get when you steal your kids' chocolates? :.(

I won't be joining you on your boat trip. It sounds like hell. No chocolate? That's like me telling Askabutcher he is no longer to cook. Or telling a child he/she cannot play with toys.... Chocolate brings pleasure. We should all eat chocolate. We would be better people if EVERYONE ate chocolate.

I failed on the Southbeach diet. It's a lifestyle change really. I go to the gym every day.

Wondering....South Beach diet is a very good diet if you stick to it. It's a very healthy way to lose and maintain,,,and like Mcguire said, it's a life style change. A very HEART healthy plan. I'm sure if you stick with it, you will not only lose, but you will feel better and have improved health.

Good luck!

BTW-as long as you are physically capable of exercising, it's never to late to start!

Dancing I have been on the south beach heart program for 4 weeks come tomorrow. I lost 7 lbs but the dr gave me pain pills to take for the fibromyalgia and I take 1 and 1 tylnol and wait 1 hour and do my exercises...its the only way I can do exercises...even though I have only lost 7 lbs my clothes is a little loser...the elastic had stopped stretching and had started to snap, crackle and pop.
I know it will take time but I am ready to be the 'old' me...

"Bitch you out"? Drink a gallon of water a day in addition to your dieting and exercise. You will lose. Maybe talk to your doctor and he/she could help w/your weightloss plan?

Do like someone did on Sex and the City. Chew the food and then spit it out................

Don't feel bad - I have been on a cooking strike for reasons that I won't bore you with so it's been restaurant and junk food for a week. I've gained 2 lbs. and only went to the gym once last week. :.(

I haven't joined a gym yet. I have beem doing exercises at home. I am feeling better and I don't hurt as much, so as soon as I think I have built myself up enough I will join a gym. If I'm unable to go to the gym at times I plan to do some exercise at home. I am determined to do this.... it was 2 yrs yesterday since I quit smoking but I cannot see much difference in my health since I quit. I have thought about going back to smoking to lose weight but then if I didn't lose I would be stuck having to quit again....

Wondering, even if you start out with only 30 minutes at the gym is great. You will get your self into the habit of going. Once you establish fitting the gym into your regular schedule then you will find that you will want to stay a little longer and push your self a little more. In the begining when you don't really want to go, just think "it's only for a half hour, then I am done". You will be SO glad you did and you'll feel like a million bucks.

I'm looking forward to starting to go to a gym but I am trying to build up slowly here at home so that I can go for 3o mins...right now I do just a few mins worth and stop and this goes on several times a day. I am doing better and I can do it a little longer each day...I will get there....I'm working at it.
