Ok I'm beat today I planted two bougainvillea's like this.

A white bird of paradise and a few other plants to replace some of my dead plants.

Plus hung up blinds in the Lanai and did laundry and my back is killing me.

I don't know if I've ever seen a white bird of paradise...but I know it would be beautiful...and great with the bougainvillea's

Thanks.. I am very excited about the Bird of Paradise. They say the leaves can get to be 10-15' high. I woke up this morning and I am having trouble moving. LOL I think I will take it easy today and go get my nails done.

white birds are also known as 'travelers palms'

good luck with your bougies. i had one in the back yard and ripped it out because every time i had to trim it, i came out looking like i been thrown in a barrel of wild cats. once they get started, they are difficult to kill. i ripped mine out with a truck and a chain. then had to dig up the roots. never again!! they're pretty, but that's about it, in my book!

Well, they were perfect for the cemetery on Colonial....that chain link fence?

They do take over....but I think that's what Irish wants....and they are beautiful....The only thing that concerns me, is growing them on wood....the wood may rot, before the plant dies?
Not sure

FT, methinks you're right. they also look a litte close to the fence to me. mine had a trunk about 4" in diameter, and the branches probably came out at least 2 1/2 to 3'. unless severly pruned, methinks it will push the fence over, and you're right about the wood..the trellis will br done in a couple of years.

Actually the picture that I posted is not of my yard. It is just a pic of a similiar bougainvillea with a trellis like the one I planted.

I planted one of them in the front of the house with a trellis. Then the other I planted on the side of my house on the outside of my Atrium. Hopefully they will grow up the trellis.

The fellow at the store told me to just train it to go up the trellis. He said I could use tape to hold it up. I plan on keeping it trimmed so it does not grow all over the place.

I did plant it close to the house is that OK? It is a CBS built home not wood. I also plan on putting in a bigger trellis when it starts growing some more.

I also want to buy some more to put along my chain link fence. Thinking of the cemetary you were talking about Dancin. But I figured I could buy the plants with out the trellis for that. They are several dollars cheaper without it.

I was away for several days and they all look good when I came home. So far so good.

Yep That is the color of them. Thanks for the warning about taking it easy. But as you already know from talking to you earlier it is to late. I feel like crap today.

I've been out in my garden on & off all week. Spent 5 hours out there today. I only came in because it was so dark I couldn't see anymore. I have been carrying bags of topsoil, compost, garden soil & mulch. Ripping out dead stuff, planting new stuff and I have a ways to go yet. I can hardly move right now.

Two questions: Anybody need some yucca plants (they are about 4-5 feet tall) or aloe plants?

I want to plant some shrubs on the East side of the house. It gets sun till about 1 pm in the the summer and that's it. Anybody have any ideas of what I could plant that doesn't need to much sun or water? My dislikes are Ixoras & gardenias. Anything else I'm game.

Thanks.

Oh here some pix of the garden so far.

You can see where the yucca is taking over the plant bed. It started out 3 small ones.

Does anybody know what this is. I planted it as a 2 incher last year and it has gotten huge & bushy. I can't remember if it was some sort of lavendar or Texas Sage. Any ideal?
