Lucky here, insurance did cover the Chantix ($10 for starter pak and $30 for maintenance 90 days). Not for me, but for the other half. She went through four cartons of cigs before she made up her mind to do it. Chantix has a good online support program to go along with the pills.

She's a heavy smoker (2½-3 paks day) and she has now been smoke free for a week.

I am hearing very, very good things about the Chantix. Everyone I have heard of who has tried it says the cravings really do go away.

I really don't want to rack up more debt but maybe I just need to put it on the old credit card...

She sez the cravings are still there, just NOT as bad as when she tried to quit before. However, her chocolate craving has gone up about 99%!!

Luckily for me, I eat very little when I am trying to quit smoking. The one time the cravings are worst is after eating. Therefore, I avoid eating. Cravings are also bad when drinking. Does this mean I will have to give up my martinis?

Trust me. No one wants me to go cold turkey. I'll take your head off, then I'll cry about it. Not pleasant for me or those I mutilate.

Askabutcher, congrats to your wife! Her success gives me hope that Chantix would help me quit too. I've never heard of Chantix before - is a prescription required or can you pick it up over the counter?

A script is req' from your doc. Some insurance prescription plans cover it, some don't.

However, if someone really wants to quit, the cost is insignificant anyway. I have to give credit to the Mrs....I never thought there was any chance in hell that she could give it up....three packs + a day for about 40 years.

Chantix also offers an 'online' program to go along with the pills.
